Benali’s Big Run is pleased to announce that the first away club support is from none other than current Premier League Champions Manchester City.
When Franny arrives on Sunday 31st August at Manchester City, he will be greeted by Alex Williams MBE and presented with a signed shirt.
Alex Williams is Manchester City Football Club’s City in the Community Ambassador. Alex started with the Club in 1978 as an apprentice footballer; in 1981 he became a first team goalkeeper and made 140 first team appearances. He was also picked to play for England’s under 18’s and under 21’s.
After a successful career playing for Manchester City and England, Alex retired from football in 1985 and started up Football in the Community, or as we know it now, City in the Community, which runs projects based around four key areas: Sport, Health, Young People and Skills & Enterprise. In 2002 Alex went on to manage the scheme for 10 years and was awarded an MBE by HRH Prince Charles for Services to the Community.
Alex Williams, MBE said: “As a club firmly rooted in the local community, Manchester City always try to help great charitable causes, so we are delighted to be supporting Benali's Big Run in aid of Cancer Research UK. We wish Franny the best of luck for his challenge and look forward to welcoming him to the Etihad Stadium.”
“It is great that Manchester City is on-board and supporting me with this challenge. Having someone there to meet me will give me a great sense of achievement and something to run towards. It is a tough challenge but the support I am receiving is immense.” Franny said.
You can see Franny at Etihad Stadium on Sunday 31st August. Or check out the route section on the website for other stadiums and dates.
